Creativity brings children with eczema together

Over the past three years, lots of people have shared their lived experiences of eczema with us through our Rapid Eczema Trials project. We’ve heard time and time again how people often never meet anyone else with the condition. They feel alone, saying that people without eczema don’t understand what they’re going through. We’re pleased that, for some, being part of our eczema research community is helping meet this need.

With this in mind, we wanted to do something to help children. This desire led to a collaboration between the Rapid Eczema Trials team at Nottingham University, and the events team at Lakeside Arts.

On 6th June 2026, children with eczema came together at Lakeside Arts for an activity day where they could relax, be themselves and have fun. Nottingham-based artists Jane Stockley and Ty Healy led 5-hours’ worth of activities, championing freedom and creativity for the children.

Feedback has been glowing and all the children enjoyed the day. One child fed back that they were ‘pleased’ to see they weren’t ‘alone and that others had similar struggles’.

The event has also benefitted our research – three of the children said they intend to sign up to take part in our Scratch Less Study.
